Instructions
It is very
important that you let the referred physician know if you take any blood
thinners.
You will be asked to have a recent
laboratory INR, prothrombin time and concentration results available with you before
the examination. If the results are not satisfactory, your procedure will be
postponed (or cancelled) until your results are more favourable.
You are also asked to bring with you the most recent
radiological procedure available with you prior to the examination for proper
planning about the best site for biopsy taking.
You will be kindly requested to sign a
written consent about the acceptance of the study and the possible
complications that may occur during or as a result of the procedure prior to
your examination.
You will then wear a hospital gown and
will lie on the table either on your stomach or back. You skin will be disinfected
with betadine antiseptic before introducing local anesthetic.
A biopsy needle will then be placed at
the chosen site of biopsy under CT or ultrasound guidance. A small amount of
material will be removed through the needle so the cells may be studied.
